Electricians, electrical contractors, marketing, and marketing. Hey guys, James Sett here from Marketing Secrets for Electricians and today we're looking at the words that you need to use or potentially use or what you can use when you're writing your app. What do we need to do? What words do we need to put on to capture the user's attention? And then also for fun, I asked a actual copywriter, so someone who does this for a living to review and look at some ads for us.
And I've got the link to the podcast in the members area at marketingsecretsforelectricians.com. So you can go there and you can check that out. And let's get into this one. Today we're looking at words and the way we use them and how they can help you grow your business. And what I've been doing is I've come up with a few ads to use or test on Facebook and I'm essentially measuring them to see how effective the headlines are, the pictures are, the text.
We're going to see what is the most, what's the most eye-catching what do people resonate with and this type of thing. So what I did was, and this was a bit of fun. I came up with a headline or a few of them and I sent one into a guy copywriting secrets for Jim Edwards and he actually did a whole podcast episode going through working out what are some good headlines to use. So for example, the first, the headline I had or I sent in was do you need electrical work performed on your home or business? We're giving away up to $300 worth.
And for me, I don't know about you, but I've read a lot of headlines or you see them in the magazines when you're walking around the newspapers, the news. This one didn't grab my attention. It just was like, okay, that's whatever it is. It didn't really like, oh, I've got to pay attention. So we're going to go through what a summary of what Jim went through, but the whole episode I'm going to check in the members area.
But like the main thing on headlines is you want to talk about what it is. You want to talk about what it does. So not what it is. So it's free. It's a free electrician essentially, but that's what it is.
Not what it does. What's the benefit? Of the person going to get the free electric work. And this is where it helps to have an actual customer in mind. So you can write if you're talking to a business or a homeowner or a single parent or, you know, a family, a man, a woman, like, or like it can depend.
Like your copy can change depending to match that audience. So it's quite interesting. I'm wondering why the headline is so important. It's the most important thing because it's going to grab the user's attention. And if you're writing any piece of content, ads, blogs, anything at all, most people don't spend that much time rethinking the headline.
And you will find that if you take some time to actually work through it and you don't change anything in the article, but you change the headline, you'll get more views, more interest. You make it compelling to like just, you know, curiosity, like, Oh, I've just got to find out what that person's talking about. Oh, that's shocking. Like maybe I should read this article and get that, or, or I want to know about this thing. Like, what is that thing they're talking about?
So acknowledging that you need to spend time on your headlines in any, in even like wherever you're going to put texts and you want people to pay attention, spend some time on it. And I'm going to go through here, some kind of templates for you. So you can use these to get kind of, um, to get some results for your ads. So they're kind of templates. And this is from the copywriting secrets books of Jim Edwards, but there's heaps of templates templates out there.
I'm sure if you search online headline templates, you would come up with your own. So the first one is how to headlines. And you've probably seen these everywhere. How to wire a light, how to install a ceiling fan or whatever you want to do, um, how to get, and then you're looking at the result. So people are avoiding the pain and they're seeking the pleasure.
So how to get what, how to get a safe home, how to get the lights turned on in my house. I don't know what is it. And then another one is how to do something in as little time as so how to get a kitchen installed in as little as one day. You know, have a think about where that fits in for what you or what your audience wants and what you want. It's kind of, we need to marry them up, match them together.
So it makes sense because you want to serve the customers. You want to focus on the customers you want, but you also want to do the type of work we're going to, you want to advertise for the work you want essentially. Um, because that makes more sense versus just advertising for anything. If you don't want to do the particular work and you might want to just do, I say these or whatever. So then you're like, okay, well, how to keep your home safe in as little as, you know, one hour, like with a free inspection or something like this.
Um, another one is how to blank in as little as blank. Even if you, so this is where you'd be like, how to keep your home safe in as little as one hour, even if you're not an electrician or even if you don't know anything about electricity, I would say, because that's, that's maybe more relatable. Most people don't know about electricity or, you know, there's a fear it's dangerous. And that's where we come in as electricians. So another headline is how every can, um, how every something can something.
So you might say how every home can be safe, how every home can be stopped or prevented from being burnt to the ground. I don't know what's, what's catchy for you. Another one, how, five quick ways, no five. So this is like, you know, five or four or three, how many, a certain number quick and easy ways to do something. So five quick ways to save power, five quick ways or three quick ways to save on your electricity bill, five quick ways to make the most of, you know, keep your home safe.
Uh, three fast ways to keep your children safe and avoid them getting electrocuted. Uh, five quick ways to get, uh, what are we going to get? So five quick ways to get an electrician, even if you never used one before. So if they haven't used an electrician before, maybe you're that person. Uh, another headline is which of these blank mistakes will you make?
So this one is focused on the mistakes. People are terrified of making a bad mistake mistake, especially if they're dealing with electricity. So which of these, um, mistakes, so don't make one of these mistakes, higher electrician. Now your life is, you know, on the line essentially. Uh, and these are more with, with, I find with electricity or being electrician, one of the main motivational points is, uh, the danger and the safety aspects.
Yeah. Like you want to be safe and you want to move the pleasure is I'm safe and you will move away from danger. Um, but the pleasure response might be, Hey, I want to increase the value of my home. So if you're a real estate investor, you're like, which of these investment state investment mistakes will you make today? Um, no, I don't really like that either.
So I'm just brainstorming here as we go through. So, so five mistakes all homeowners make when hiring an electrician. Avoid this, um, three mistakes, every homeowner makes when hiring an electrical contractor. So you could highlight there's pain points and there's plenty of pain points when hiring electricians. So another one is like the warning and this could probably be overused, but warning here's what every business owner needs to know about electricity or how it needs to know about saving power or what depending on your target market warning.
Don't even think about trying to hire electrician until you read this. Um, what about a solution? Here's the perfect solution. If you want to hire an electrician, here's the perfect solution. If you want to, what does your audience, your target market, what do they want to do?
What are they trying to do? Here's a perfect solution to keep your kids safe from electricity. Here's a perfect solution. If you want to. Keep your kids safe from electricity, even if you're, you don't know what you're doing.
Um, another headline is my proven method. So my proven, and this is, so this is something where it's your thing. So this could be related to your business. Your label it, have a method that's yours label it as unique. So no one else like that's your thing.
Like an iPhone, you know what that is. That's like, a branded thing or something like that, where it's like my proven five step method to keep your family safe. Um, that type of thing. So it's, if it's unique to you, this is where you're going to stand, help. It's going to help you stand out from the other electricians, um, in your area.
So that's like a bunch of templates. I hope that helped a bit. Um, and just in summary, like the headline is the number one thing or number one factor that determines if you're going to, if your ad will succeed or fail. So spend some time on it. If you're running ads or even if you're just doing blog posts or whatever on Facebook, if you're posting something, test it out.
Next time you do a post, try, sit down and think of a catchy headline and vent it. Ideally you want to vent it with your customers, like not like you could talk with your friend. Yes, that's okay. Uh, but ideally you want the response from your target market to they're the real judge because they're the ones going to be paying you. Your mate isn't.
Um, so that's, that's what, uh, I'm focusing on at the moment is building headlines. And even if, uh, you've done one headline, so you've put an ad out and you're like, Oh, that's a killer. That's like making, you know, getting the most attention, most clicks, most opt-ins, whatever the measuring factor is, start split testing that as well, because that's then your baseline and you can then try another headline and you can split test it. Okay. Which one's better?
And you may keep improving your ad, your, your website, um, all these places you can keep improving until you basically there's, you know, and with, with ads, with headlines, you also need to keep coming up with new stuff to keep that, um, attention, yeah, because it was so overstimulated nowadays with so many things, uh, competing for our tensions, all these new apps, all these TV shows, movies, everything's in our way. That's also why a headline, um, is very important to help capture the attention of your potential customer. And if you're talking in their language, if you're, so if you're talking about a problem that they've just experienced, that's going to stand out. It's like, you know, a car or you're looking for a car and you say, say you want a Toyota, a certain make and model of Toyota. And I don't know if you have this experience, but, uh, don't know what car I was buying right now, but when I, when I was going to buy a car, it's like you, you, your mind, I think it was a Ford anyway, it's irrelevant.
So the main thing is when you're going to buy a certain car, your mind and you're focused in on that. Have you ever noticed that the car, you would see that driving around and like, a week ago before, when you weren't looking for it, you didn't, you didn't see it. It didn't exist, but now you're looking for a new work and you see the Toyotas like driving around, maybe it's you, you're after whatever it is, but you see it everywhere. You're like, wow, I didn't know there's so many. And this is why you want to speak the language of your audience.
Because if, for example, if someone is after, um, a ceiling fan installed and maybe they're scrolling through Facebook and you go, are you wanting a ceiling fan installed or is your house hot? Let's focus on that because that's the actual benefit. They're going to get a cooler house or let's say aircon. Like whatever the thing is, whatever your, your audience is, maybe you're like, it's, is it too hot in your home? Here's a quick and easy way to keep it cool.
Or, you know, get your ceiling fans installed today at whatever, at this, you know, go to this website, whatever the thing may be. The point is if you're talking about the problem that's on their mind, it's going to automatically stand out above the other like things in, for example, the Facebook scroll or the ads, wherever you're putting your ads or your content, wherever you're getting in front, if you're talking their language and their problem, you're going to increase your chances dramatically of standing out and getting the attention, which is what we want. So then hopefully you can get a another customer. So that being said, I'm going to say, first off, if you want to check out in the marketing secrets for electricians members area, I'm going to put up the episode podcast from Sales Copy with Jim Edwards. I've got the episode where he goes through the questions and you will see him actually go through and come up with a bunch of, you know, you see, it's interesting to see a sales copy person go through and create and you see the process of how they did it.
So hopefully you have a chance to go and check that out because it's quite interesting. So I'll put that in the members area so you can check that out. And then I'm also going to put what I'll do. So I've also from that episode, I've changed my headline. I've also changed the description and I'm going to show you and I can show you what I've actually put down and even if you want to come and vote what you think is going to win.
Or, you know, the best thing I'm going to split test three, four, I think maybe we've got five, a few of them with about four or five different images. And I'm going to split test these and run these through and see which one stands out the most, what gets the most attention. And you can come have a look. And if you're wanting to talk about headlines or some ads or you got some, some ads you want to look at or talk, come to the Facebook group, marketing secrets for electricians.
