Hey guys, in this episode we're going to look at why an electrician's website does not work. Hey guys, thanks for tuning in. Have you got a website for your electrical business? If not, all you got to do to get a kind of demo of what companies out there have websites is do a Google search on any electrical company and you'll find the top search results will appear and you can click on them and you can see a website. However, how do you know if they're actually working?
You know, they may get found, but do they convert? I mean, that's the main factor. Do people come from Google? Go to your website and they they then become a lead. Or a customer that you can then go to the house and do the job, make some money.
That's the goal. So the other thing is, do you believe in order to get more work, you actually need a website. I've met other electricians as like, I don't need a website. Well, in today's age, you kind of do. You're better off having a website than nothing because people are searching online more and more.
It's a very fast. It's still growing. It's 20 plus years old, but it's still growing. There's more people every single day coming online. So point one, if you don't have one, get one.
However, now I when I started my business, I didn't have a website. So I learned to code. And that took me about six months to learn how to build a website and I could do it from scratch. Yet when I put it out there, guess what? I didn't get any any new jobs, no new inquiries.
And what I discovered was a confused mind always says, no. So what does that mean? That means let's look at an example. Yeah. So a customer wants, let's say a customer wants some downloads installed in a room, any room house doesn't matter.
Now they go on your site and you give them one one option on how to do this. It's easy enough to understand. And they say, yes, or it doesn't even have to be a website. You walk up to the house and they then ask for the downloads and you go, yep, I can do it like this. And it's easy, simple.
Now, what if instead of giving them the download install, you're like, oh, actually, there's five parts or five ways, five options you have and you go in depth. So, for example, you go, okay, you can install the downloads, but then you can also install a PowerPoint or you can install a new stove or I could also install a ceiling fan for for you. What have you needed to upgrade your switchboard? And then do you need an RCD? This is where the customer is going to get confused with all these options.
How do you think they feel? Yeah, pretty lost. So this is the problem. And now you've asked for one thing and they've been talking about five things. And the chances are they're going to say no.
And worse, they'll probably go somewhere else. This is basically what a normal website does. It gives the user so many options. And pass the pick from that they don't end up doing the one action you really want them to take, which is opt in or put their email address in, put their number in so you can give them a call or contact them. And instead, they exit out of your page, click on the next listing in Google or whoever else they found you.
Now, a better way to do that is now possible using a sales funnel. And this walks them through the sales process. Now, I'll give you another example of this. So of an electrical sales funnel. Yeah.
Now, I don't know about you, but I've installed heaps of downloads. I particularly don't like them unless it's a brand new house. But anyway, so the more more we install, the more the better you get at it, the more of the expert you would be considered. However, a customer, they their only experience of download is I've seen it on the home renovation show. And now I want my home to look like that because it can increase the value of their home, just the look in the field, it's better.
So that's the extent of their knowledge. And now it's your job to educate the customer further to make the right selection of downlight, how the job is going to be, if it's even possible to put the light where they actually want the thing. Now, this is normally done when you arrive at the customer's house. However, why are we waiting until then with every customer? Basically, you can educate them when they land on your on your website or your sales funnel.
The first step is, in this case, is we want to educate them how you do the job and you want to do it in a way that has no techno bubble. So, for example, you don't want to use transformers or RCDs or like any, for example, the RCDs, the customers I spoke to, they call them safety switches because they understand that it protects them. So you need to explain to them how to all the things they need to know about the job or the downlight, in this case, that install. What do they need to know? And you explain it all in a professional manner.
You can even have a video on the page or not. It doesn't matter. The main thing is you're getting that information across which you would do in person. So it saves a it saves you time just there because you're adding value before they even meet you. And if they don't like what you have to say, then you're not wasting their time.
So but then. What you want to do on this first page is address all the concerns that the customer might have about downlights. And you will know these concerns like you notice when you go there, when you go there in person to a customer's house, they'll be asking you, you know, how do I do this? What about this? What about that?
What about that? All these things, I was just writing down and you add them to your website and day by day or we say on this first page, you add it there. So at the end of the day, after a certain amount of time, you're keeping you're keeping refining it. So this page becomes more valuable and sells your services better. Now, one of the things that the that a good idea is to on this first page also include, like not just the downloads and the installs and all the questions about that, but also a bit about your self.
So like, who is this person coming to my house? You know, address that. This might help them trust you more and build that relationship before you've met them. And then you kind of give them the price of the job. So this is kind of you've told them all about what you can do.
You've told them about yourself. And then you show them the price. You've already built like trust and they can see you doing a quality job. You could even have a video of you installing a download so they can see what it looks like or other examples, have some testimonies, there's heaps of things you can add to this front front page so it helps pre-sell them before they make the purchase. Now, once they've made the purchase, you start another conversation.
So on the next page, this is part of the the electrical sales funnel. On the second page, you might say, hey, well, congratulations. You've you've purchased a download install. And what I find most customers ask is something about a light switch. How can I turn this off from the main.
So I've got four lights. How do I turn this one you download on or how do I separate them? And you could add this so you could throw in. OK, you can get a light switch installed and you can talk a little about that. And then if they want, they could take this off and they click yes.
Or they could go no. So either way, they go to another stage, which is like, OK, also many customers, for example, if the download is over a bench, they're like, I want to dim it. I want to set the mood or you've got like a girlfriend over or your wife, you want to set the romantic tone, you can dim all the downloads and it looks really nice. So this is another thing. And then they can say yes or no to that.
So you've tried to sell them not only the download, you've tried to ask if they want to switch a dimmer and then on the say the next page is like the thank you page or the booking page. So you say, yes, here's the stuff you've purchased. And this can all happen automatically. So there's no you don't have to get involved. No one from you don't have to spend on admin to take the booking.
It's basically the the customer goes through the sales process. You you from the copy, which is the words on the page, essentially, you walk them through the sales process or have a video on there explaining this whole thing. So the overview of this is essentially the sales funnel. Is the user goes and wants a download, then they get offered a switch for the download and then a dimmer for that switch if they want, and then they can book you in. So now think about what you've all your jobs were already prepaid for before you got there.
No more chasing down money for work that has already been completed. I personally hate that. It's a pain in the ass waste of time. I've already done the job. Just pay me so we can move on.
And it wouldn't be great if the first time you came into contact or the customer came into contact with your electrical company is when you arrived on site and you were already paid to do the job like it's like already a done deal. You sign up, you don't have to go like your free quotes. When I was doing it, it was OK, but there's so much downtime wasted from just going quote, quote, quote. And then three or four other guys come out and see same job. You go like not always with the lowest price, but essentially you're competing on price.
And you've also all those electricians have wasted their time going out there, you know, before electricians went out. Yes, they would say there was three. That's three hours of an only one's going to actually win the job. So this is a different process that can save you a lot of time. And it's very powerful.
And I have not seen this used in a from any electrician that I've seen so far. So it's kind of starting. This is new. And not only does a sales funnel have the ability to produce more customers and sales for you, but the average customer spends more than on a website. So the sales funnel, because you're taking him through certain steps and each step is focused on one particular outcome.
It has the potential to produce more from the average customer than if you just had the one thing. So this is an electrical sales funnel. This is what I'm hoping to create with you guys as we go through this podcast. I hope I explained it well. It's a really powerful tool for any electrical business.
And we'll dig deeper into this. If you have any other questions, please hit me up and I'll talk to you soon. Thanks. Thanks for tuning in and listening, guys.
