Hey guys, James West here from Marketing Secrets for Electricians. And today we're going to look at the goals for your marketing in your electrical business. And also what this entails is creating a client acquisition funnel. And throughout the next days, weeks, months, however long it takes, I'm going to kind of be documenting this process of creating a client acquisition funnel for electricians. going to be running ads, we're going to be making the funnel, we're going to be understanding who our customer is and doing all the things involved.
And I'm going to give you a live kind of demo test run to see how it's done and hopefully generate some free leads for you guys. So if you want to get involved in this, you can actually contact me and let me know what area you're in. And when we get leads in that area, I will send them your way. So this is the goal of what we're doing. And we're going to start first off by going through the goals for your business.
So, here's what I hear a lot. How do normal electricians like us, who are properly trained and licensed, who are not willing to cheat and take shortcuts, and who are wanting to own a successful electrical business? How do we compete against the big guys who own the market share or the guys that charge peanuts for an electrical job? On top of that, we want to employ the best electricians so we can get off the tools and have plenty of time for other areas of life. That's the question.
Join me and follow along as we search for the answers. My name is James Rest and welcome to Marketing Secrets for Electricians. or don't even know if they've had success because you're not measuring it. Say I spent $1,000 on marketing this month in the Yellow Pages. Did I get any leads?
How many leads did I get? And did those leads turn into jobs that I actually made $1,000, $100? Or was it just like all tire kickers that were like just asking for how much it is and they ran off and found the cheapest electrician? We don't know unless we track it And then we're like, okay, so for example, if I'm spending $100 on yellow pages and I got 100 leads, that's awesome. I know that for every dollar I spend, roughly, I'm gonna get one lead.
However, if I go to Google and I'm spending $100 and I got five leads, I'm like, well, the yellow pages is working better in this case. But you don't know unless you measure. And this is where smart goals come in. So we want to be specific, measurable, Achievable, relevant and time-bound. So let's go over specific here.
What do you want to accomplish? Why is this goal important? Who is involved? Which resources or limitations do you have? So for example, being an electrician, I know or I've worked out that in order to keep myself busy as a one-man band electrician, I know that I need about 50 leads per month on an ongoing basis for me to have enough work to sustain one guy.
So my goal could be, okay, I want to put on one more goal in the next three months, so I need to build up my marketing so I have an extra additional lead coming in, and it may take me six months to get to that point or a year or whatever it is, have a target where you can measure, okay, like, so this month I only put in 10, got extra 10, so I'm getting there, or did I get 10 less? Okay, I'm going backwards. What am I doing wrong? Which leads to the next one, measurable. You want to measure the goal tracker, it needs to measure the thing.
You can't just like spending money on marketing. That doesn't help you. And then achievable, like you want to make it, like you don't want to go where I'm going to make it, I want to make a million dollars next month. That might be nice, but how likely are you going to actually do that? We want to also, which brings us to the next one, make sure it's relevant.
So make sure it matters to you and your business. Like, you know, you don't want a goal that is also like, what's an example here? You're like, I want it to, I want the sun to shine every day and that's out of your control. So it's not relevant to your business. Next up is time-bounds.
So when do you want it to happen in the next six months and the next year and the next two years, five years? And I personally like to have like a six month a year and then kind of a long shot goal for myself. Now going back to your business. And essentially the goal is you want to make profit. That's the point of any business.
If you're not making profit, why are you in business? Unless you're a non-profit, which is also different. But anyway, so we want to make a profit and we can measure this by going like you can say, I want to make a thousand dollars profit per month from whatever it may be, from doing this particular type of work. We want to make a thousand dollars for each job I do in installing or rewiring house, whatever the thing may be. Now, from that, you can work out, okay, so to, let's say, a wiring house up.
Let's say it costs you $1,000 in labor, $1,000 in material, and then you're like, okay, cool. So for each house, I want to make $1,000 profit. That means I need to sell my thing for $3,000. Now, that gives you a great price point and you can then realize, okay, That's what I need to sell it to my customers for. So you've got the base, you need to do the math and work it out, and you can change that.
You may be able to increase your profit margin by just increasing your prices. This has also worked. So that's kind of the first step I wanted to go over. Make sure you have a goal for your business, but in particular, your marketing. What is the goal for your marketing?
make it so you know what's going on and you're in control, you have understanding. And then the next thing we're going to work through is the goal that I'm going to set for me in order to show you what I'm doing. So the goal that I've set for myself is to create a client acquisition funnel that any electrical contractor can use to get Extra electrical work for for their business. That's kind of the the baseline I want to generate about to start off with about 40 leads per month on an ongoing basis and if you notice my goal is actually not to make profit my goal is to build a relationship with customers potential customers for electrical contractors and From building that relationship then hopefully turn them into job leads where they will be a trust me enough or my brand or the image enough for me to then find them electricians and this is where I'm going. So I've created, for example, I've created a website, findelectriciansnearme.com.
Now this is the start, I've got that URL, this is the start of what I'm trying to accomplish and I'm going to be sharing this journey as we go, but I'm going to need your help. So I'm not doing this, I'm doing this for fun, I like this, is like I enjoy marketing. However, I'm not gonna be doing the work. So if you want to be involved in this, you need to reach out to me either join the Facebook group, Marketing Secrets for Electricians, or go to the website, marketingsecretforelectricians.com. Let me know where you're based, what type of work you do.
Join in the Facebook page, the Facebook group, 'cause I'm gonna be asking you guys questions because I need, I'm going to be creating it kind of on behalf of someone in a particular postcode or area or zone where you get work. This work is not for me. I don't plan on doing the job. This could be anywhere in the world. It doesn't actually matter.
It's for me to test the marketing strategies out. And I've got a few I want to test. So this is the first one that I'm going to be doing. And I'll probably be going into more detail on the YouTube page and/or in the chat. the Facebook group so you can see exactly what I'm doing and that way you can do it yourself or you can just contact me and you can hook up and get some free job leads for your business that's that's essentially the plan and the main thing is that you take some action so what is your goal let me know and next up we're going to look at who because who is a big thing we we just We don't want to market to anybody.
It does not matter because it's like if you want to market to everybody, you're going to spend your marketing budget way too thin, even though we want it so you can have an unlimited marketing budget by knowing your numbers. You can actually put one dollar in and get two dollars out. That's the goal. But at the start, you're going to need to have a budget if you're going to want to do paid ads, if you want to do free stuff. going to take you more time to get the result that you're after, but it's going to be free.
So it depends what boat you're in. You can do it your own way. I'm hopefully going to help you get there one way or another. Yeah, I hope that helps. If you have questions, concerns, hit me up and I'll do my best to answer them.
Other than that, I'll look forward to the next one where we'll discuss the next thing, which is who, who are or who are you going to serve in your electrical business? And I'll give you an example of who I'm going to serve for this website that I'm building and we'll go from there. Thanks. I'm going to send them your way. However, in order for me to send them to you, I need you to reach out to me.
So you need to go to find electricians near me.com and you opt in. You let me know your electrician. You let me know the suburb, what jobs you want. I'm not going to guarantee you anything. However, when jobs come in and I get work, cause we're going to get work, I will send them to you for free.
Now you might ask, why am I doing this? Why am I giving you electricians free work? So for me, it's testing out the marketing, it's proving this concept of electricians marketing online and proving that it can be done. And not only that, I'm going to show you how to do it step by step. So if you want to see how we're doing it, you can join the Facebook group at Marketing Secrets for Electricians.
And there I'm going to show you step by step how we're doing it. However, if you want to be part of the test group, you can go to findelectriciansnearme.com and make contact. I shall talk to you soon.
